Why Women Over 40 Need Hearth: Finding Purpose and Connection
Episode 3 of Hearth Talks
This week in Hearth Talks, I talk about why I think we need a show like this - from not being able to find similar shows on YouTube, where women in the best phases of their life are looking to start a new career, or jump into an exciting passion.
Passing 50, 60, or 70 isn’t about giving up - it’s about living our best lives with the wisdom we’ve gained over the years. It’s about tossing aside lingering fears and stepping into who we really are.
And I believe it’s best done together.
A few stats I found to explain why I’m doing this show include:
50% of Americans report experiencing loneliness regularly, with women in midlife disproportionately affected by social isolation during life transitions.
More than 70% of women aged 35-55 expressed a strong interest in programs focused on personal development, wellness, and creativity, according to a Forbes Women survey.
Women control 85% of consumer spending and are increasingly prioritizing personal growth, wellness, and transformational experiences.
A 2023 Frontiers in Psychology study found that artistic expression reduces cortisol levels and improves overall happiness.
A 2024 report by Eventbrite found that 73% of millennials and Gen X (many now in their 40s and 50s) prefer investing in experiences over material goods.
Participation in creative classes and workshops increased by over 30% during COVID-19, and in-person experiences are now rebounding strongly as people seek connection and personal expression.
Please enjoy - I’ve also added the show transcript beneath the video, in case you prefer reading to watching. Let me know what you think - and if you have any suggestions for future clips.
As it stands now, I’m thinking of three or four talking-head-type videos from me a month, discussing topics I think we’d all find interesting, as well as one interview with a guest who has expertise in a topic . I’m not quite ready for interviewing, but I’d like to start in the spring (after I learn more about YouTube, filming, editing and all that.)
Thanks for sharing this journey with me! And drop any thoughts below.
