Sky Railway Adventure in Santa Fe
George R.R. Martin's latest project includes a fire-breathing train and an unforgettable experience
Does anyone need a reason to come to New Mexico or Santa Fe? Personally, I don’t think so, but, just in case you do….
New Mexico’s latest adventure, the Sky Railway excursion train, launched December 3rd in Santa Fe. Partly owned by Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin, the 18 mile trip from Santa Fe to LAMY is no ordinary train.
It’s an unforgettable experience that includes a painted train car called The Wolf and a fire-bellowing and smoke-breathing engine named The Dragon. (Notice the reference?…) The trip will include unique entertainment from Santa Fe’s Exodus Ensemble (who are amazing!!) to murder mysteries, a Santa holiday excursion and even bandits and pirates.
In the future there will be jazz, country music, cocktail, and circus themed trains — and, naturally, a Wild West themed trip. And more!
The train was hand painted by Santa Fe’s Jorael Numina, a renowned muralist and graffiti artist.
In December, four trips are being offered:
Starting December 3:
Pablo’s Magical Holiday with a Christmas Village in LAMY and a Santa on board (1.25 hours, departs from LAMY)
The Exodus Experience — a high octane, immersive experience not to be missed (1.5 hours, departs from Santa Fe)
December 18th:
Sunset and Serenade — cocktails and jazz (1.5 hours, departs from Santa Fe)
December 29th:
Murder on the LAMY Line — you got it, a murder mystery trip (4 hours, departs from Santa Fe)
Guests are required to show proof of vaccination and wear masks during the trip (unless eating or drinking). This is also an open train, meaning windows are down. Floor heaters are provided but guests are asked to dress warmly and to wear closed-toed flat shoes in order to move about the train cars. There is an open-air flat car.
Other co-owners of the train include Bill Banowsky (founder Magnolia Films and Violet Crown Cinema), Douglas Preston (bestselling mystery author) and five others.
Tickets and more information can be found at Sky Railway.
