Yes! I think I've given away 20 books this way at this point. And the app will help you find them in your area of you're traveling (like we were up visiting family in Michigan this weekend and we found five). I'm also contemplating updating my book and doing a relaunch and I'm going this gets me some readers. I put a business card in each with a QR code for my Substack. Only time will tell, but I figure if people don't know I exist, how can they find me???
I feel the same way now that I understand how hard it is to stand out as a writer. I put a bookmark in mine that has a QR code to the book's website. And I did same when I went to Denver - anywhere I go that I drive, I'm going to have a few in my car to spread around.... Please keep me posted if you get any response from doing this. Honestly, I think this is better than spending money on FB ads. I think they're a waste of time....
Once I'm ready to start marketing my next book, I'll probably start also putting in flyers to promote it and then cross promote between both books. A slow process, but I see it as medium risk, high reward. And a gift to fellow readers.
