Forget the term self publishing, bands have been called indie and recording on indie labels for decades, so independent authors should proudly tell others when they indie publish.
It takes a village to birth a book! Thank you Diane for the much necessary reframe in a world where being proud of your work and wanting to show it off has become something frowned upon.
I put out my second book this past August and just finished the 10th edit of book 3. (It's a series called The Mind Monsters series.) I'm hoping to have book 3 published first quarter 2025. Are you published?
Yes, I've published two books as well. Working on the third in the series (called daughter of isis), but my writing has slowed way down since I've had my daughter. I do what I can with the little bit of time I can take away from my work and family
That makes total sense. I've been on sabbatical for a couple years and then we had covid before that, so I've been able to focus and learn indie publishing. I'm starting to get back into the world, so things are going to slow down for me soon also. You can find info at www.dianehatz.com - the site is a work in progress (I'm too busy writing the books....)
Since I started down this road, I've loved the terms "indie author" and "indie publisher" because while I'm not part of a major publisher, I do rely on other independent craftspeople for help with editing and other publishing needs. None of us can do this alone, but we have to own the responsibility of making all of the creative and business decisions to move forward!

Thanks, Noemie!
Great points! You are echoing so many of the reasons that led me to indie publishing. Have you published?

Where can I find your books? Do you have a website?
Ooh, love the title of your series!

Fair enough! I'll check it out. Glad to hear you're on the mend
This is a simple reframe that makes a big difference. I’m going to adopt the term. Thanks for this post.
Thanks!
Fabulous. Thank you Diane, for this overview of how it really, truly works...
Thank you for your fabulous self!....

Exactly! There's not really a "self" in this - it takes a community to birth a book.
